Driver in Custody After Truck Strikes Light Pole

A single-vehicle accident occurred on Portugal Cove Road between World Parkway and Craig Dobbin's Way at approximately 12:12 AM on March 6, 2025. The driver of a truck lost control, veering off the road and striking a light pole in the median.

St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to the scene but left shortly after paramedics and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) arrived. The driver was assessed by paramedics at the scene and was subsequently breathalyzed by the RNC.

The driver is currently in RNC custody, but the status of any potential charges is unknown at this time. Newfoundland Power is on scene assessing the damaged light pole. Traffic was slowed while crews worked at the scene, but the road remains open. Drivers are advised to proceed cautiously as Newfoundland Power crews continue their work in the area.

The incident remains under investigation.
