Emergency crews responded to two separate vehicle collisions in the metro region on Saturday evening (February 14), resulting in road closures and minor to moderate injuries
The first collision occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of Ladysmith Drive and Kiwanis Street in St. John’s. An SUV and a sedan collided, causing moderate damage to both vehicles.
Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department assessed both drivers at the scene alongside paramedics with NL Health Services. Each driver was placed on a stretcher and transported to hospital with what were described as minor to moderate injuries. There were no serious injuries reported.
Officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary closed Ladysmith Drive between Kenmount Road and Kiwanis Street while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Approximately an hour and a half later, at around 7:15 p.m., emergency crews were called to a second collision on Commonwealth Avenue near Taco Bell in Mount Pearl.
That crash involved an SUV and a sedan and resulted in extensive damage to one of the vehicles. Firefighters assessed the occupant(s) involved until paramedics arrived. NL Health Services paramedics conducted a further assessment of at least one individual inside an ambulance; however, that person was not transported to hospital.
Firefighters remained on scene maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction until the RNC arrived. Traffic in the area was fully restored shortly before 9:00 p.m.
