On Wednesday morning (October 22), just after 8:00 a.m., firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD), along with members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and NL Health Services (NLHS), responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of 75 Bonaventure Avenue, near Brother Rice Junior High School, in St. John’s.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, they observed a light haze in the air. Upon further investigation, they discovered a minivan on fire in front of the school. Firefighters quickly deployed an attack line and extinguished the blaze within minutes.

After a short investigation, it was determined that the minivan had rear-ended a school bus, causing the vehicle to burst into flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Bonaventure Avenue was closed for approximately half an hour before reopening to one lane of traffic while officers remained on scene awaiting a tow truck
