PICKUP TRUCK ENDS UP IN DITCH AFTER THORBURN ROAD CRASH

(Oct 3rd)
Emergency crews responded to a collision involving a dump truck and a pickup truck on Thorburn Road in St. John’s Friday evening.
At around 5:45 p.m. on October 2nd, personnel from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and NL Health Services were called to the area just east of the Outer Ring Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters located the dump truck in the middle of the roadway, while the pickup truck had left the roadway and came to rest in a nearby ditch.
Firefighters and paramedics assessed those involved. An SJRFD Captain confirmed at the scene that the lone female driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries. She was assessed at the scene and taken to the back of an ambulance for further assessment. The driver of the dump truck was unharmed.
Information obtained at the scene indicated that the dump truck was travelling eastbound on Thorburn Road and was attempting to make a left-hand turn into a property when the pickup truck allegedly attempted to overtake the dump truck on the left-hand side.
The two vehicles subsequently collided. However, an official report confirming the cause of the collision remains unknown.
Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to report.
Thorburn Road was impassable to motorists for some time while crews worked at the scene. The roadway was reopened after the dump truck was cleared.
