Placentia RCMP impounded an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) Sunday afternoon, after learning that the vehicle had no registration or valid insurance and that the driver was operating with a suspended licence.
On February 22, just before 2:30 p.m., an officer on patrol in Placentia conducted a traffic stop of an ATV operating on a roadway. The operator, a 66-year-old man, told police that he was planning to travel a short distance to help clear snow from a nearby driveway. However, the officer confirmed that the man’s driver’s licence had been suspended, and that the off-road vehicle was not registered and did not have the required insurance.
Police seized and impounded the ATV, and issued the operator a ticket for driving while disqualified.
An ATV can be a helpful tool when cleaning up after a winter storm, but you must obey all laws and regulations any time you’re operating an off-road vehicle. That means wearing a helmet and ensuring that you have the proper documentation, including a valid licence and insurance if you are operating on the roadway.
