Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to a fire Friday evening in Paradise that was initially reported as a brush fire in a wooded area off Lanark Drive.
Emergency crews were called to the area between Quantum Drive and Tudor Place just after 5:00 p.m. on May 29. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a heavy amount of smoke mixed with dense fog while searching for the source of the fire.
Crews quickly located a fire on a property along Lanark Drive and upgraded the incident to a structure fire response.
Additional resources from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, including an extra engine crew, two rescue crews, one ladder crew and two support units, were dispatched to the scene. However, after further assessment, firefighters determined the blaze involved a small shed-type structure.
Firefighters from the original responding engine crew were able to bring the fire under control quickly using an attack line. A secondary engine crew staged at the scene for a period of time before being cleared once the fire was contained to a manageable size for one crew.
The structure was completely destroyed by the fire. No injuries were reported.
