CANINE UNIT DEPLOYED AFTER OCCUPANT FLEES CRASH SCENE IN TORBAY

Firefighters with the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department, along with personnel from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and NL Health Services, responded to the scene of a hit-and-run collision involving two vehicles Friday night in Torbay.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Torbay Road and Indian Meal Line at approximately 9:50 p.m. on May 29.
The lone occupant of one of the vehicles involved was was assessed on scene but was not seriously injured in the collision. However, at least one occupant of the second vehicle fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of first responders.
An officer with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Police Dog Services was immediately engaged and responded to the area to attempt to locate the individual who fled. A search of the immediate area was conducted, however, after a brief search, the individual was not located.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage as a result of the collision. The intersection was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene and removed the damaged vehicles. Detours were put in place during the closure.
