Crews responded just after 7:00 p.m, for a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Allandale Rd and Mount Scio Rd. The vehicles collided and struck a traffic light, knocking it down and causing the three remaining lights to switch to a flashing red, creating a temporary 4-way stop.

The RNC was on scene quickly to investigate the collision and direct traffic. Both vehicles were extensively damaged, including one electric vehicle, which required firefighters to use a special tool to safely de-energize the high-voltage battery. Paramedics with NL Health Services assessed all involved, and thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

City of St. John’s workers remained on scene for several hours to remove the fallen pole and restore the traffic lights.
