Glovertown RCMP arrested a 40-year-old man on Friday night after he fled from officers by snowmobile. In addition to flight from police, Kurtis Penney is charged with operating a vehicle while prohibited and failure to comply with his probation order.
On February 20 at approximately 5:05 p.m., an RCMP officer in Glovertown observed a man operating a snowmobile improperly on a roadway and without a helmet. The operator was known to police, and is currently the subject of a Canada-wide driving ban. When the officer attempted to stop the snowmobile, the man fled on a trail into a wooded area.
Police began patrols for the snowmobiler, and located him at a residence in Traytown the following day. He was arrested and transported to Gander where he was held to appear in provincial court today (Monday).
Kurtis Penney, 40, is charged with:
- Flight from a peace officer
- Operation of a conveyance while prohibited
- Failure to comply with a probation order.
He was released with conditions, and is scheduled to make his next court appearance in March 2026.
