CORNER BROOK STABBING ACCUSED RELEASED ON BAIL

(Oct 5th)
The man accused of stabbing a Corner Brook business owner has been released on bail following a court appearance Friday (Oct 5th).
Gregg Musakanda, 32, was arrested by officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) after a stabbing at a business on Mount Bernard Avenue in Corner Brook on September 14th.
According to the RNC, Operational Patrol Services responded to the business at approximately 5:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing. A 37-year-old male victim was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The RNC said the suspect had fled on foot before officers arrived. A search of the area led officers to a residence on Valley Road, where Musakanda was located and arrested at approximately 7:00 p.m.
At the time, Musakanda was charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent and break and enter.
The RNC said investigators were working to establish a timeline of events leading up to the attack and appealed for information or video footage of the accused, including CCTV, dash-camera and cellphone footage.
Doug Payne, the owner of Downtown Entertainment, was hospitalized following the stabbing while closing his business.
Following Musakanda’s release on bail, Payne expressed frustration in a Facebook post, stating that the accused received $500 bail and is subject to a curfew.
Musakanda is scheduled to appear in court again on November 17th.
