Residents in the Seal Cove area of Conception Bay South continue to voice concerns over the ongoing closure of the Seal Cove Bridge, with delays in construction.

In a statement issued Monday afternoon, October 5th, the Town of Conception Bay South provided an update on the replacement of the Seal Cove Road bridge.

The Town says the contractor responsible for installing the new bridge returned to the site earlier Monday to prepare for drilling operations, which are expected to begin later this month.

Council says it is not currently in a position to confirm when the bridge will reopen, but is working to have it reopened as soon as possible.

“Council and staff will continue to press for the earliest possible completion,” the Town said, adding that residents will be updated when there is something substantive to report.

The Town acknowledged the frustration among residents over the lack of progress and said it has taken steps to require the contractor to resume and complete the work without further delay.

According to the Town, the matter involves serious contractual issues, and Council says it would not be appropriate to comment publicly while those matters are being addressed.

The Town also acknowledged the impact the closure is having on local businesses, including Seal Cove Grocery, and encouraged residents to support the long-serving local business while the bridge remains closed.

The Town says it appreciates residents’ patience and understands the frustration caused by the ongoing delay.
