RCMP Crime Reduction Unit East (CRUE), with assistance from Gander RCMP, arrested a 28-year-old man wanted on multiple serious Criminal Code offences early Saturday morning.

Police say CRUE members had recently conducted patrols in the Gander area and spoken with associates of Michael Torraville while attempting to locate him and execute an outstanding arrest warrant.

According to police, officers received credible information that Torraville was hiding inside his residence and knowingly evading law enforcement.

In the early morning hours of October 3, police established containment around the residence and applied for a warrant to enter the home. While waiting for the warrant to be authorized, officers attempted to communicate with Torraville, who remained uncooperative and refused to exit.

Once the warrant was obtained, CRUE members, assisted by Gander RCMP, entered the residence and located Torraville. He was arrested without incident.

Torraville was held in custody to appear in court Saturday.

He faces charges including assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, flight from police, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, failing to remain at an accident scene resulting in bodily harm, possession of property obtained by crime, four counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, and mischief under $5,000.

The RCMP Crime Reduction Unit East focuses on repeat and prolific offenders, organized groups and other high-priority criminal matters across Newfoundland and Labrador.
