A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for St. John’s and vicinity as well as the Southeast Avalon Peninsula.
❄️Total Snowfall:
20 to 30 cm (locally higher amounts possible)
❄️Snowfall Rates:
2 to 4 cm per hour at times
💨Wind Gusts:
North to northeasterly 80 to 100 km/h
⏰Timing:
This evening through Sunday afternoon
⚠️ Impacts:
Conditions will rapidly deteriorate tonight as strong winds combine with heavy snowfall, leading to widespread reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow. Travel may become difficult or hazardous, especially overnight and into Sunday morning.
Sunday Outlook:
Snow will gradually taper to scattered flurries through the day Sunday. Over the southeastern Avalon, temperatures may rise just above zero, with snow mixing with or transitioning to rain along parts of the coast.
Residents are advised to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm conditions
- Secure loose outdoor items
- Prepare for possible power outages
- Keep emergency supplies on hand
